For over 30 years the Center for Christian Spirituality at the General Theological Seminary has been a resource for Christian spirituality and formation, not only for the community at General, but for the hundreds of our participants from throughout the United States and the world. Lay leaders, priests, deacons and bishops have all benefited from the variety of our programming that is designed to enhance their spiritual life and strengthen their ministries. Although we are a part of an Episcopal/Anglican institution, our approach is ecumenical. Our students and faculty from come from a variety of faith traditions and our Director, The Rev. Dr. Jonathan Linman, is a Lutheran Pastor.

We also offer several degrees and a Certificate program. All are welcome to apply to take our various classes in Ascetical Theology either for graduate level credit or for audit during any of our semesters. We offer two intensive semesters for those who wish to complete our classes within a shorter span of time.
Our programs are intended for a wide audience with varied interests: lay persons who want to explore the spiritual dimensions of their vocations in the world, parish lay leaders and employees who seek education for varied formation ministries where they serve, deacons and pastors, priests and bishops desiring the foundations for specialized ministry in the area of Christian spirituality and formation. Students come for spiritual enrichment, for deeper understanding and experience of their own faith; for discernment of God’s guidance; for sabbatical study, and formation toward new ministries in the Church and the world.
