A Renewed Vision

TEforALL supports a renewed vision of theological education in the Episcopal Church. We seek to inspire all Episcopalians to be theologians and to call congregations to intentional theological reflection and learning. Throughout the church, there is a renewed emphasis on the importance of learning for persons of all ages.

>> Learn About TE

TEforALL affirms theological education as an integral part of the Church’s mission. It aims to promote knowledge and understanding of the many ways in which education and faith formation occur in the church: for the lay and ordained, in seminaries and Sunday School, in parish halls and public parks, when we learn to identify our own ministerial gifts, as well as when we give of ourselves through ministry.

>> Resources

TEforALL hopes to provide resources, web-based and world-based, for educators and learners. At the heart of TEforALL’s mission is the hope that congregations, seminaries, individuals, and organizations will find new ways of understanding theological education, and will offer effective and creative learning opportunities for all people in their Church community. At the core of this aim is the belief that theological education should be part of all Christian lives, and that collaboration is the key to expanding what that vision might mean, what it might look like, and how it might happen.

>> Who’s Involved

Multiple partners have contributed to the mission of TEforALL. The idea was conceived by the Council of Episcopal Seminary Deans in conversation with the Offices of Ministry Development and Ministries with Young People at the Episcopal Church Center and other committed individuals. The Lilly Endowment and Trinity Church Wall Street have supported this initiative with generous grants.

>> TE Sunday

A major focus of TEforALL is Theological Education Sunday, as newly defined by General Convention resolutions and Presiding Bishop Frank T. Griswold. In 1999, Bishop Griswold named the first Sunday in February as an occasion for the church to encourage all members of the Church to participate in the search for the knowledge of God. It is also a time for recognizing and celebrating those places where transformational Christian education and theological understanding are experienced and valued.

The message of TEforALL reaches the church in several ways. A new two-part video, "A Renewed Vision: Profiles in Theological Learning," has been produced to be aired in Episcopal congregations, diocesan formation program, camps and conferences centers, and other venues. The web portal assists educators and learners in identifying resources, encouraging conversation about this aspect of mission, and providing ideas for the annual celebration of Theological Education Sunday.

To support the creation of collaborative efforts, TEforALL desires to expand the Episcopal Church's ability to provide accessible, meaningful, life-long theological education at the institutional, programmatic, and grass roots levels.
